Görlitz survived the twentieth century almost entirely intact, which is why film crews keep arriving and why an evening event here does not need decoration. Four thousand listed buildings, a river that is also the Polish border, and venue costs that would be impossible in any city with the same appearance.

Why hold an event in Görlitz

  • It looks like a set because it has been one. The old town does the work that a designed venue would have to be paid for.
  • Poland across the bridge. A genuinely two-country guest list without a journey.
  • Unusual venues. A brewery culture site, historic halls and a synagogue-turned-cultural-forum give a programme genuine variety.
  • Cheap for what it is. Nothing in Germany with this appearance costs this little to book.

The venues

Stadthalle Görlitz

The town’s large historic hall for congresses, concerts and gala evenings — the venue that makes larger formats possible here at all.

Landskron Kulturbrauerei

A working brewery site with halls and courtyards used for parties, concerts and company events. Industrial volumes, minimal ambient light.

Kulturforum Görlitzer Synagoge

The restored synagogue as a cultural venue: a room of real significance, with the restraint that requires. Concerts, lectures and formal occasions rather than parties.

Old town courtyards and halls

Renaissance merchant houses, hall houses and courtyards for smaller receptions. Beautiful, tight, and almost never lit for a camera.

Listed buildings set the rules. Most of the old town is protected, and additional lighting, rigging and anything fixed to a wall needs permission. It is routinely granted and never granted quickly — ask at booking.

Photographing events here

A town that photographs itself, once the permissions are in place and the light is planned for.

  • Old town exteriors are best in the last hour; the narrow streets are in shade for most of the day.
  • Historic interiors are shot available-light, with bounced fill only where a table would otherwise be unusable.
  • In the synagogue and comparable spaces, coverage is quiet, discreet and agreed with the venue in advance.
