The Oberpfalz is the least known event region on either side of the border and, for a certain kind of company, the most useful: an industrial belt of glass, ceramics, automotive supply and logistics running along the Bavarian-Czech frontier, with congress halls in Weiden and Amberg, castles in between, and a border that its companies cross daily.
Why hold an event in the Upper Palatinate
- The industry is genuinely cross-border. Bavarian firms with Czech plants are the normal case here, not the exception.
- Two proper congress halls. Weiden and Amberg both have purpose-built venues for several hundred people.
- Historic settings without the prices. Castles, monasteries and old town halls at rates no tourist region could offer.
- Motorways in both directions. Nuremberg and Regensburg an hour away, Plzeň an hour and a half.
The venues
Max-Reger-Halle Weiden
The town’s congress and concert hall: a main auditorium plus conference rooms. Functional modern lighting, no daylight in the hall.
Congress Centrum Amberg
A conference centre in the historic old town, combining modern meeting space with a walled medieval setting outside the door.
Castles and monasteries
Historic estates and monastery buildings through the region for formal dinners and management retreats. Protected interiors, restricted lighting.
Industrial premises and glassworks
Working production sites — glass, ceramics, automotive supply — where most supplier days actually happen. Mixed light and safety rules.
Ask what language the room expects. Cross-border meetings here run in German, Czech and English in different proportions depending on who is presenting. Interpretation booths change where a photographer can stand, and they are worth knowing about before the day.
Photographing events here
Congress halls, monastery refectories and production floors — three different lighting problems inside one region.
- Production sites mix daylight, sodium and LED in a single frame; white balance is set per scene.
- Monastery and castle interiors normally restrict tripods and additional lighting; permission is arranged in advance.
- Safety equipment is worn correctly in every frame, or the image is unusable for the client.
