The Ore Mountains run along the German-Czech border for a hundred and fifty kilometres, with UNESCO mining heritage on both sides, ski resorts at the top and towns like Freiberg and Annaberg-Buchholz that were rich centuries before Dresden was. For a two-day company programme with a genuine outdoor half, there is nothing else like it within an hour of Saxony’s cities.
Why hold an event in the Erzgebirge
- A real winter season. Almost uniquely in the region, January and February are an asset here rather than a problem.
- UNESCO mining heritage. Show mines and historic works make an industrial company’s programme land in a way a hotel cannot.
- Both sides of the border. The ridge is the frontier; a cross-border programme is a matter of driving over the top.
- Low cost, high novelty. Mountain hotels and heritage venues here cost a fraction of city equivalents.
The venues
Freiberg
The mining university town: historic civic buildings, Schloss Freudenstein and cellar restaurants. The most complete small-town venue set in the range.
Show mines and heritage works
Visitable historic mines across the range, used for guided programmes and, in some cases, underground receptions. Cold, dark and strictly controlled.
Oberwiesenthal and the Fichtelberg
The highest resort in eastern Germany: mountain hotels, cable car and a genuine winter programme for team days.
Annaberg-Buchholz and the small towns
Historic civic halls, churches and hotels through the range for smaller conferences and company evenings.
Underground is a different job entirely. Show mines set hard limits on group size, duration, clothing and equipment, and they are not negotiable. If an underground element is in your programme, the venue’s rules decide what is possible — including whether photographs may be taken at all.
Photographing events here
Snow, altitude and underground darkness in one programme. Each needs its own plan.
- Snow fools every meter; exposure is set deliberately, not left to automatic.
- Underground work depends entirely on the mine’s own lighting and on what the operator permits.
- Mountain weather is the plan. Every outdoor element carries a stated fallback agreed at booking.

What coverage costs
The same fixed, all-in rate card applies here as in Berlin, Dresden and Munich: from €950 for a half day and from €1,650 for a full day, with the edit, a private gallery and usage rights included.
