Regensburg has the largest intact medieval old town in Germany, a UNESCO listing, a princely palace still lived in, and a Danube quay that turns a summer reception into something guests photograph themselves. It is an hour and a half from the Czech border, an hour from Nuremberg, and it books far more easily than its appearance suggests.

The venues
Marinaforum
The city’s modern event and conference hall on the river — the largest flexible format in town, with daylight and river views.
Schloss St. Emmeram
The Thurn und Taxis palace: state rooms, courtyards and the abbey buildings for formal evenings and receptions. Protected interiors, strict rules.
Salzstadel and historic halls
Medieval warehouse and civic buildings by the Stone Bridge, used for receptions and dinners. Stone, timber and very little ambient light.
Danube terraces and boats
Riverside restaurants and charter boats for the informal half of a programme. Confined, moving, and best in the last hour of light.
The old town is a pedestrian zone. Deliveries, transfers and guest arrivals need planning around access windows. Any venue will explain them; the mistake is assuming a coach can stop at the door.
Photographing events here
Stone, timber and water. Regensburg is generous outdoors and demanding inside.
- Old town exteriors are best in the last hour; the narrow lanes are in shadow for most of the day.
- Historic halls have almost no usable ambient light; a small bounced source carries the room.
- Palace interiors are protected — tripods and additional lighting need permission arranged in advance.
