Hof and Selb sit in the far north-east of Bavaria, where the Czech border turns west. Hof has the region’s congress hall; Selb has porcelain — a working industry, a museum of it and a theatre paid for by it. Together they cover the German side of the Cheb crossing, an hour and a half from Nuremberg and two from Prague.

Why hold an event in Hof and Selb

  • A proper congress hall in a small town. The Freiheitshalle takes conferences and concerts that no neighbouring town can host.
  • An industry with a story. Porcelain production is still here, and it gives an event a theme that visitors remember.
  • Border logistics. Czech operations twenty minutes away, Bavarian headquarters within two hours.
  • Costs a fraction of Nuremberg. For a supplier day or a regional conference, the difference is substantial.

The venues

Freiheitshalle Hof

The town’s congress and event hall: a large auditorium plus conference rooms. Modern, functional, heavy stage lighting.

Porzellanikon Selb

The porcelain museum in former factory buildings — industrial halls, kilns and exhibition spaces used for receptions and company evenings.

Rosenthal Theater Selb

A small theatre built by the porcelain works, used for formal programmes and award evenings. Fixed sightlines, stage lighting.

Hotel conference rooms

Modern meeting space in both towns for the working half of a programme. Low ceilings, flat lighting, entirely adequate.

Kilns and display cases are the same problem twice. Porcelain is white, reflective and usually behind glass. If the product is part of the evening, agree the lighting with the venue in the walk-through, because there is no fixing it afterwards.

Photographing events here

Industrial museum spaces and a modern congress hall — opposite ends of the lighting spectrum in one booking.

  • Museum halls restrict flash; a bounced source where permitted, fast glass where not.
  • The congress auditorium is exposed for the stage, with faces recovered in the edit.
  • White porcelain fools every meter. Exposure is set deliberately for the product, not for the room.
